Boyertown’s Zimmers picked for ‘American Pickers’

BOYERTOWN – The American Pickers themselves, Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe, spent the better part of Wednesday picking through Kevin Zimmers’ warehouse and storefront for treasure.
Kept a well-guarded secret by Zimmers and his family, the camera crewspositioned themselves outside of Zimmers Pets to film an episode of the popular History Channel show in the hopes of catching television magic in Boyertown.

Zimmers found out his collection would be featured in an upcoming episode last Friday.
“The producer called me and said I’d been chosen as one of the ‘Pick Stops,’” he said.
This should not come as surprising news for anyone who has seen his amassed treasure; in all, Zimmers has an additional 12 trailers full of items in addition to his storefront “museum” that he has been collecting since he was 10 years old. He gained the desire to collect from his grandfather, who had a collection of his own before he sold it all away.

“My grandfather told me when you buy something, make sure you like it because if you can’t sell it, you’ll be stuck with it,” Zimmers said Wednesday morning. Holding up a copy of Amazing Fantasy No. 15, better known to comic book collectors as the first appearance of Spider-Man, Zimmers said he was confident Frank and Mike would be interested in buying the comic.
